"WWIII"
FEW: Russian FM calls for multipolar world mechanism
while they talk about "coordinating policies" (as in the case of the "somali pirates"), they prepare to go to war against each other. the russian and chinese states have nearly doubled their expenditure on armed forces modernisation with an emphasis on aerospace and missile technologies. WWIII will be a war fought by hi-tech fighter jets, drones and smart missiles; perhaps there might be a couple of tactical low yield nukes thrown around... minister Lavrov has to pander to the diplomatic rethoric of "coordination", but he knows perfectly well that all russia and china can do is to delay the comming war by playing diplomacy for as long as they can. this in order to buy as much time as possible to complete the modernisation of the SCO armed forces in such a manner as to guarantee the realistic possibility of effective multipolar enforcement when the time comes. on this one i would agree with the old adage from lenin that talk about peaceful cooperation among capitalist states only hides preparations for war. having said that, i still maintain that a multipolar victory in WWIII is the only chance there can possibly be for the emergence of ecologically sustainable forms of democratic socialism. the possibility of stablishing spaces for construction of "21st century socialisms" in diverse places requires a multipolar world where many worlds are possible. the dominion of neo-liberal ideology over globalisation and USA unipolarism are the two fundamental obstacles. My premise in crystal: FIRST get rid of neo-liberal unipolarism and enforce geo-political and geo-economic multipolarism, THEN work on progressively eradicating capitalism per se in context of a multipolar order. the only way to abolish neo-liberal unipolarism is through MILITARY VICTORY over the United States. i am confident that china, russia, venezuela and the dprk working together could accomplish this. the perception of United States "invincibility" is in many ways a function of public relations, perception management and western media propaganda. the United States military is a powerful force, but not "invincible". there is no way to reconcile unipolar and multipolar, one or the other has to prevail. this is why i think the WWIII is innevitable. -n2

I'd substantially agree with most of this -- but not all of it. One thingI see differently is that WWIII will not only be fought with hi-tekweaponry -- tho' this will be decisive in part. In fact: WWIII isunderway as we speak -- and involves all sorts of asymmetricalstrategies. And some of these will be downright WMD -- and horrific -- innature. - -- grok.

i supposse then, that the cummulative effect of these asymmetrical strategies is to increase the level of tension. perhaps this conflict between state and non-state actors is the precursor or background to WWIII. the role of private actors, non-state networks and unidentified social movements in struggle against outdated nation state structures is noted. the current jujitsu between the NATO navies and the "somali pirates" is illustrative. my "perspective focus" is on the possible conflict between nation states (hidden behind the diplomatic facade of "international community collaboration"), because it is these who have by far the largest capability to inflict deadly harm and force projection. but you are correct that the role of non-state actors should not be discounted or understimated. in the 21st century "war" (in the classical sense of the term) is not only between nation states, but the outcome of fundamental geo-economic and geo-political conflicts of interest that can only be resolved by armed force. unipolar vs multipolar is a case in point. -n2
